Random Abstracts PVR project I\'ve been using Snapstream\'s Beyond TV3 for over a month now. I also purchased the Snapstream Firefly Remote. I am using a non hardware encoding, Avermedia TV Studio card to record my MPEG2 streams. I use the S-Video output on my ATI Radeon 9700Pro to display the monitors 1024x768 output on my27inch Sony Wega. The Snapstream remote is RF based and connects to my PCs USB port. Owens Photolog Building a PVR Also see his progress via his updates scroll around his technical category archive to get a sense of the refinements he\'s made and issues he\'s had.
He\'s got an extensive price list of the materials he used. also of note he used something other than mini-itx and hauppauge pvr x50 cards... so that\'s of interest, eh?

Building a Linux-based time-shifting box This is one of the original ground breaking attempts at diy pvr... well it's the first one I saw via a link on slashdot. It's a good primer for those of you willing to try linux and have lower horsepower machines to work with.
Building a Linux-based time-shifting box
NOTE:
This document is still a work in progress, as is my TV time-shifting box. They both "work," but there is still room for improvement. The time-shifting box works fine, but it still could use a spiffy user interface. Likewise, this document contains a lot of information, but I expect that it will grow significantly over time. Every time I look at this I find myself realizing that I forgot to discuss something. Send me an email if there are subjects you would like me to address. I'll see what I can do.

Homebrew PVR : Communications From Elsewhere Homebrew PVR : Communications From Elsewhere
I\\\'ve been wanting to replace my aging Tivo for a while now. It\\\'s developed an encoder bug which runs a faint blue line from top to bottom around 1/3 of the way in from the left. It\\\'s annoying. (And since the first thing I did when I bought my Tivo was open it up and add another hard drive, it\\\'s well out of warranty.)
A new 80-hour Tivo with a lifetime service subscription costs $650. If I want to add the Home Media Option which allows me to play mp3s, look at photos, and schedule recordings over the internet, that\\\'s another $100. I love Tivo; my experience with the series-1 model has been great. It really did change the way I watch TV, and I don\\\'t want to go back to watching TV without something Tivo-like. But I bet I can build a comparable machine for less than $750. (Which is, coincidentally, the amount I just unexpectedly sold a domain name for. It\\\'s kismet, I tell you.) And since it\\\'ll be open-source software driving it, I can make changes if I don\\\'t like the way it works. Added on: 17-Jan-2004 | hits: 3535 Report broken link | Details
Odonadon's HTPC Project Chronicles the development, trials and tribulations of my HTPC Project. After much success with my Arcade MAME cabinet project, it's time to spice up the home theatre. Found on this page are many links, articles, and reviews I've found very helpful on my journey to built the ultimate Home Theatre. Added on: 01-May-2004 | hits: 3596 Report broken link | Details
My Freevo HTPC Box I decided to build my own HTPC in mid 2002. I first got it working in early 2003 and improved the software every now and then (switched from Windows to Debian, to Windows, to Debian, to Mandrake). Added on: 16-Jun-2004 | hits: 2752 Report broken link | Details
John Chapman's PVR Project I stuggled for weeks with MythTV despite excellent help.
In the end I tried the SageTV trial and had it working in half a day

Super VCR Mod My first attempt at building a real live home made PVR/HTPC from a case not intended for a personal computer (a VCR if wasn't obvious). Still a work in progress and very close to completion, this PVR will take the form of a 20+ year-old VHS machine. As a goal the completed project will include the original mechanical tape counter that spins and a small LCD screen where the digitial clock used to be.
