New Windows PVR Software GB-PVR
Posted by: rampy on Thursday, February 05, 2004 - 08:42 PM
PVR News

Well it's only new to me anways =) GB-PVR site It isn't Open Source, but it's still "free as in beer", and the overlay looks pretty darn good to me. It also supports the MVP, although I'm not sure in what capacity.... Maybe 2n could check that out first hand?

Read more to see what that author had to say about his software or make a comment.

I just wanted to let you know about my PVR software. See http://www.gbpvr.com. Its pretty good if I dont say so myself. It primarily designed for use with the
Hauppauge PVR250/350 cards with support for the PVR USB2, ProVideo and Adaptec VideOh! coming soon. To of the most interesting features include full On Screen Display (OSD) on the TV out of the PVR350, and MVP client. We were the first PVR application to introduce these features, although SageTV now also supports the OSD on the PVR350.

You may want to add a link you your site, or post a news item. (Rampy's note: tada!)

Cheers
Graeme

I'll give it a try. If I had the PVR250, this program would be a dream for me. I read the message boards on the site for the program and my impression is that it would add the tv guide and record options to my mediamvp display at my tv set which would be awesome. Unfortunately, it won't work for me because my crappy cheap tv tuner card is not supported. If anyone wanted to give me a free PVR250 (not likely, I know) then I could test it out.

However, I would encourage all interested parties that have the PVR250 and 350 to chech this out. The developer looks like he is putting a lot of hard work into this product and the price can not be beat.

I tried out the program for the mediamvp. It has potential, but as of yet I can not tap the full extent.
What it does do for me:
---Replaces the bland interface on my tv with one that is more appealing and handles thumbnails for albums better.
--- It IS skinnable. Well, it only has 2 skins so far, but that is much better than the mvp software.

What it doesn't do without the pvr 250, 350 (but would do with it I think):
--- Have a listing guide on screen
--- Let me record from the television

What it doesn't do at all (or at least I couldn't figure it out)L
---It doesn't let me adjust the aspect ratio, it is bigger than the tv screen
---Doesn't let my mvp play divx (but that is really just a Hauppage issue, I was just hoping for a miracle from this third party item.

So..... If you have the pvr250 or 350 GIVE IT A TRY
If you have only the mediamvp and a cheap tv tuner : fiddle around with it but don't expect miracles
