TiVo is openly snubbing satellite users with to coddle up to the cable companies when it comes to supporting HDTV on it's new Series 3 DVR.

TiVo conveniently forgets about satellite providers

PVRblog has a copy of an ad that ran in a TV industry trade publication. There's a two-fold message from TiVo to cable companies here:

1. You should stock up on cable cards, as we're going to increase demand for them, as well as all your services by putting our new product on the market and getting everyone all excited about TV.
2. We're not supporting satellite companies, see how much we love you cable companies? (Never mind our falling out with satellite providers)


Ironically, I noticed that Hauppauge and Cyberlink are partnering to provide a legal means to decrypt subscription HDTV satellite content on PC

CyberLink Corp. is showcasing the first solution for accessing high-definition pay-TV satellite services on the PC. Partnering with leading TV tuner card manufacturer Hauppauge Computer Works, CyberLink has demonstrated the decryption and playback of subscription TV content.

The collaboration delivers a sophisticated PC solution allowing the reception, recording and playback of MPEG-2 HD and highly compressed MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) TV content broadcast via satellite.

CyberLink and Hauppauge have implemented signal reception, decoding, and playback of protected DVB-S2 and DVB-S content through their software and tuner card, in combination with the Hauppauge WinTV CI USB adapter.

So where TiVo decides to ignore a market a DIY PC HDTV based solution emerges!
